Villa Cala Vadella

Searching for the style of the traditional Ibicencan house, this project was intended for a local family who wanted a modern interior with an exterior traditional style. Bedrooms form an extensive platform for relaxed and spacious living levels characterized by a sophisticated language of crisp contemporary forms and laid back, locally-inspired materials.

The house is designed in attempt to modulate each one of the spaces. Despite the enclosure of space, there was always a continuous search to correlate indoor and outdoor space. Each one of the interior environments of the house is modulated and their correlation to the outdoors, so as to annul the facades as a static element.

The local style is juxtaposed with the modern interior touch, expressed with the thick walls, punched with small windows. The wrapping walls or enclosure are of great importance, and in this way they fine-tune the outer shell of the house, whilst the interior remains austere and magically sober, with a more modern style.

The program for this single family house had to meet the function of accommodating a single family, and under other circumstances a series of guests. The importance of a  covered open porch is vital in this style of architecture, where the family will gather most of the year, as the south facing orientation maintains the covered terrace warm.
