Sa Creu
A private house for a local ibicencan family has been built on a north-facing site with uninterrupted valley and sea views. The site falls 6 metres below the road level, so the roof terrace becomes an important element from the main road. The challenges of brief and site were compounded by strict local planning regulations, adopting the solution of partially burying the house, whilst maintaining enough light by opening skylights throughout the villa.
Organised on a single level, the house opens out towards the north-west with living area, dining area and bedrooms overlooking the pool and views. The main living area is the family domain containing the book-lined hearth and an open kitchen on one side of the living space. The owner has a personal interest in cooking, which is reflected in a professionally equipped kitchen and pantry, with it’s own exterior access and directly connected to an outdoor dining space.
The northern facade is mostly glazed, alternating transparent, white and stone, to vary the quality of light and privacy, using local and traditional textures in order to integrate the house to its surroundings.
The combination of inside and outside circulation enables the house to offer the family and its friends an exceptional degree of community, as well as respecting the privacy of the individuals.
